Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify job characteristics and negative effects of service managers who work for basic care services for older adults living alone. Data were taken from 370 service managers of the program from a general population survey. The social worker characteristics, job characteristics(job satisfaction, job commitment, job stress, client violence, death in older adults), and negative effects(burnout, turnover intention, depressive symptoms) were examined, using descriptive statistics. t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results depicted that the workers were generally females, 20s-30s, college graduates, married, fair self-rated health, and early careers. They showed middle levels in job satisfaction(M=2.39), job commitment(M=3.52), job stress(M=2.13), emotional exhaustion(M=3.29), depersonalization(M=2.41), personal accomplishment decrease(M=3.29) and turnover intention(M=3.06). In addition, 20% of the workers were client violence victims, 50% experienced death in elderly users, and about 58% had depressive symptoms. T-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis revealed that job characteristics were significantly related with negative effects in the population. Based on the findings from the study, implications for practice and policy implication were discussed.
